Veneer and Wood Bonding with Water-Based Adhesives Designed for Hot and Cold Press (or Roll-Lamination)
CC4358 and ABX2860 are heat-activated and heat-crosslinking water-based adhesive respectively with bond strength exceeding that of the base wood. AB2250-FT is designed for cold roll-lamination (or cold-press) for fastest decorative veneer bonding water-based adhesives. All of these water-based veneer and wood bonding adhesives are formaldehyde-free, VOC-free that are TSCA Title VI and CARB-compliant for green building initiatives.
Veneer and wood bonding for furniture manufacturers, wood panel processors, and industrial wood laminators, have used formaldehyde and solvent-borne adhesives for the longest time. Even with industries demand, water-based adhesives for a longest time have yet achieved the same productivity and/or performance. AIT Chemical, Inc. Hot-Press of Heat-Activated High Temperature Performance Water-Based Adhesive with Strength Exceeding most of the Wood Base:
AIT Chemical have developed water-based adhesives to achieve performance of Urea-and-Phenol Formaldehyde based wood and veneer bonding adhesive by polymer molecular engineering by either heat-activated bonding or low temperature hot-press bonding with crosslinking. With these two approaches, AIT Chemical, Inc. has been able to achieves instant melt-bonding for heat-activated CC4358 and lower temperature hot-press bonding for ABX2680. That is, dramatically faster bonding time for higher through-put with much lower energy input and thus cost.
CC4358 when heat-activated for melt-bonding at temperature with same heat-press process used for formaldehyde-based adhesive at 100-130ºC but in less than 30 seconds or less than 1/10 times to achieve the ultimate bond strength. ABX2860 is unique in that it can achieving bonding with wet-bonding with subsequent heat-crosslinking without pressure or with hot-press with low heat at temperature from 60-80ºC in less than 10 minutes. Both CC4358 and ABX2860 bonding wood structure and furniture can be used for outdoor applications and withstand long-term water-soaking without delamination or loss of bond strength upon drying.

Cold Roll-Lamination or Cold-Press High Through-Put Water-Based Adhesive for Decorative Veneer and Wood Bonding with Strength Exceeding most of the Wood Base:
Veneer bonding and wood bonding used for interior applications such as decorative veneer bonding may wishes to use water-based adhesive with cold-press or cold roll-lamination in place of solvent-based contact adhesive for healthier workplace.
AB2250-FT, ABX2860 and CC4158 are engineered for this application condition. Both of these adhesives when applied onto veneer surface, it can be cold-lamination or cold-press bonding within 60 seconds. The time to cold press bonding can be further reduce with spray coating pre-applied onto the veneer with the water-based adhesive. The high “green strength” engineered into the water-based adhesive ensure that no holding time is required with cold roll-lamination or cold press bonding.
QUICKBOND™ AB2250-FT is one of the fastest if not the fastest wet-bonding wood and veneer bonding water-based adhesives. AB2550-PLUS is engineered to have even faster wet-bonding. Both AB2550-PLUS and AB2250-FT are proven to work on all veneer types on wood with wet-bonding even when veneer substrates have some built-in stress curvature. Testing beyond 500 psi typically caused wood fracturing and cannot provide meaning full data.
