Home / Cold Roll-Lamination or Cold-Press High Through-Put Water-Based Adhesive for Decorative Veneer and Wood Bonding with Strength Exceeding most of the Wood Base

Veneer bonding and wood bonding used for interior applications such as decorative veneer bonding may wishes to use water-based adhesive with cold-press or cold roll-lamination in place of solvent-based contact adhesive for healthier workplace.

Ambient “curing” water-based adhesives that is VOC, formaldehyde, and solvent free are important for field applications and for decorative veneer-to-wood, wood-to-wood, foam and fabric bonding that are paralleled to the performance of the traditional solvent-borne contact adhesives. QUICKBOND™ AB2250-FT, ABX2860 and CC4358 are designed and proven for this application and installation processes.

QUICKBOND™ AB2250-FT, ABX2860 and CC4358 are engineered for this application condition. Both of these adhesives when applied onto veneer surface, it can be cold-lamination or cold-press bonding within 60 seconds. The time to cold press bonding can be further reduce with spray coating pre-applied onto the veneer with the water-based adhesive. The high “green strength” engineered into the water-based adhesive ensure that no holding time is required with cold roll-lamination or cold press bonding.

VOC-free and solvent-free QUICKBOND™ AB2250-FT, ABX2860 and CC4358 are water-based adhesive that are designed for veneer-to-wood and wood-to-wood bonding at ambient temperature with cold-press or roll lamination. AB2250-FT is one of the highest green strength water-based adhesive that reaches handling strength within 30 seconds and reaches full strength within 4-8 hours. CC4358 has additional advantages being water-soaking resistant after fully cured. When exposed to usage temperature above 65ºC, the bond strength increases to as high as 1,500 psi bond strength. They are designed for field application and decorative veneer lamination bonding.

Formaldehyde-free, VOC free water-based adhesive that are heat-resistant and moisture resistance:

The high temperature creep resistant water-based adhesive CC4358 can be wet bonded at ambient temperature with cold press or roller lamination to bond strength of 60% or more of the 2,500psi full strength. Once exposed to 60ºC or above, the bond strength increases in-situ. For high volume manufacturing, the ambient cold pressed veneer finished wood laminates can be fully “cured” in heating chamber at 105C or above for 10 minutes to achieve full cured bond strength and other properties such as outstanding resistance to creep, high moisture and water-soaking exposure.

QUICKBOND™ CC4358 has an inherent capability to achieve unparalleled veneer-to-wood and wood-to-wood, and fabric and foam to wood and metal bonding of over 1,500 psi with ambient curing.  When the bonded structure or upholstery are exposed to higher temperature above 65ºC without pressure, the bond strength increases in-situ and will reaches the full bond strength if post curing without pressure at 105-125ºC for a few minutes. More than 500 psi bond strength is maintained even at high temperature of 85ºC to ensure creep-resistant in all weather conditions.

CC4358 and ABX2860 Water-Based Adhesive in Comparison to PVAc (Polyvinyl Acetate, “white glue”) Adhesives:

  • PVAc or “white glue” like CC4358 and ABX2860 is water-based adhesives. The molecular structure is amorphous and bond strength depends on the glass temperature that is typically low from 28ºC to 32 or up to 45ºC depending the product formulations. The bond strength dramatically drops above glass transition temperature. That is, PVAc provides poor heat resistance above 45ºC in the best case.
  • Based on its amorphous molecular structure, PVAc water-based adhesives do not possess chemical crosslinking like of UF or PU or physical “crosslinking” like that of CC4358 and chemical crosslinked ABX2860. PVAc bonding has poor creep resistance and are not suitable structural applications.
  • CC4358 is heat-activated or wet-bonded with heat-activation at 105ºC or above to achieve full “physical crosslinking” molecular structural bonding. This special molecular structure provides the same temperature resistance bond strength stronger than wood and creep resistance to and above 85ºC.
  • AIT QUICKBOND™ CC4358 with its “physical crosslinking” and ABX2860 is chemical crosslinked to provide outstanding water-soaking resistance in comparison to PVAc type water-based adhesive that lost its bond strength when exposed to soaking water.

That is, CC4358 and ABX2860 in comparison to PVAc type “white glue” wood adhesive is much stronger, more durable, and is an industrial-grade alternative to PVAc or similar water-based adhesive.
